Thanked: 0Hmmm... that's a pretty boring looking one. The other fellas at SRP (back when it was a yahoo forum) who had tried them, described the same type of blade I have, which is plain, incredibly thick/heavy at the spine, and a weird shimmery metal. I'll have to post some good pics with my Nikon D200.

Thanked: 0Mine looks mighty different i'd say....
Notice how amazingly shiny it is, yet you can still see the "grain" of the metal - SUPER fine polish, but a swirly grain to the metal makes it look liquid-like. In person, it almost appears as though it is not smooth at all, and is is "runny" but when you touch it, it is perfectly smooth.....
Now check this out... on the right is a 7/8 TI which we all know, are incredibly thick, meaty razors - now notice on the left, the much smaller Chronik is actually much thicker, and the razor is significantly heavier. Also notice, the Chronik has a much more rounded spine, which makes it appear much thinner than it actually is. If you take the "rounded" portion of the spine out of consideration, it is about as thick as an 8/8 Henkels Friodur, which is one hell of a thick blade. Again though - this thing weighs a hell of a lot more than any other razor I have held in its size. This weighs about as much as my monster 10/8 RW wedge. Really a cool razor. Spanks a wonderedge any day.

The reason that it is quiet in here is because there are not many members posting at this time; most people are at work. Maybe the pictures just are not showing what you describe, but I have a Joseph Rodgers that has a mirror finish with "grain" that is still smooth to the touch as well. This razor is an absolutely phenominal razor too, so maybe the "liquidy metal" has something to do with it lol. I am assuming that it is something different that yours, but it looks similar to your pictures. As far as the spine, it does not really look any bigger to me than your 7/8, it certainly does not dwarf the TI in your picture. Maybe if I saw the razors compared in person then the difference would be much more apparent. If you say that the razor weighs as much as your 10/8 Robert Williams that is very interesting and cool; however, I don't really see how that could be possible that a smaller full hollow razor would be as heavy as a much larger razor with a thick grind and custom scales . All in all it looks like a very cool razor that is definately very rare and quite a find. If you say that it shaves much better than your Wonderedge, then I definately believe you; I never was really very impressed with either of the Wonderedges that I used given their reputation and price.

Thanked: 335Quiet? Of course! We're all struck dumb watching the subtle currents of shimmering metal flow silently through the blade. Why, yes, there's a Martensite trout swimming strongly against the austenitic current. It's almost a mystical experience. Ah, yes, flashbacks to those shimmering days of my hippie youthdom.

It's difficult to tell in pictures, but the blade looks to me like one that was originally satin finished, with relatively deep, regular scratches, which was polished with something like Maas and a dremel. I looks like the Maas and dremel pad imparted the "swirly" effect on top of the original, regular scratch marks and made it all shiny.
Joel, do you think this blade is made of some exotic metal?
