Thanked: 4942Looks like a Dovo to me......... Especially the second one with the satin finish...........
The main thing is that you like it............. There's no need to have to explain........When you're happy the world is happy.........and when you say it's a nice razor, then it's a nice razor.........

Joel, given your Chronic's thickness, and the pics from the e-bay auction, where the razor has fancy etching on the blade, do you think it might be possible that your razor is reground from a larger, say 7/8's blade?
I have one such razor, 6/8 reground from a full sized 8/8's, and given it's new, wider angle at the bevel, it shaves differently from my other 6/8's razors, and actually, it is one of my favorites...

Thanked: 0I'm not sure.... I supose it is possible. There is no evidence of a regrind however... hmmm... another fella (about 4 years ago) on the yahoo SRP posted a similar experience.
Scott,
I am certain it isn't an abrasive/dremel, as when I got it, it was in "so-so" shape, and I had to polish it up with some Flitz, and that is what greeted me below the gunk/crap layer. My personal "ASSumption" is that it isn't particularly "special" or "super wingding holy" steel, but rather it's been tempered or heat treated in a different manner. Dunno for sure... but at least the one I've got is a HELL of a shaver. The ones on ebay do look like dovo's however. Quite odd.

(Whew!)
OH NO! It's Joel!
And he wielding a Chronik!
Look away!
Ah well. We all have our favorite razors. Great photo's though.
Now, I've never tried this razor, and I don't want to be a 'nay-sayer' (despite my poking fun...because that's what I like to do), but what strikes me, and this might be the angle that my computer screen shows, is that the lines in the blade look like grind marks, and the 'shimmery' areas look like polish wheel marks on grind marks (I've made these before ). It almost looks as though the tang has similar vertical 'grind marks' which would also be made from a wheel of sorts (my fiber wheel on the dremel makes these when I clean up a blade).
With all this said though, I am only noting what I see in pictures and not in person.
I do admire the devotion to one's razor. Not everyone here has a 'trusty' razor as such.
But one question I have....where are all these recent eBay 'Chronik's' coming from?!

Chronick, schmonick as I said just another pretty face. I have plenty of razors with blades that shimmer and look liquidy and they all shave great. I doubt is made with some exotic mix. But like lynn said if your happy with it and think its special then its special to you and we're all very happy for you.

Thanked: 9OK, fess up - who's the whackjob bidding 400 stone on it? And, more importantly - what is your agenda?
Cheers

I just checked the auction this morning, and it's up to $405.00 with 59 minutes left.
Go figure!
