Thread: Price Fixing

Seriously, why don't we band together to improve things? really, we complain that the big blades for instance are going for ASStronomical sums. I've seen 4-6 w&b over 1" go in the last month I'd say. all go outrageous high. but it seems many many of these are bought by forum members!!! come on guys, we're bidding against each other, hurting ourselves.

there has to be a better way man. if nobody pays those prices they'll come down. I'm watching one over 1" right now, has some staining it looks like but pretty nice, w&b (I'm now convinced the larger blades from other makers are worth more, I see many of the butchers). the way it is, it isn't WORTH more than about 150 I'd guess. I'm bidding lower because it isn't a deal otherwise.

am I crazy? are we not an honest enough group that if we were looking at one and said okay, so and so gets the shot this time, people here would still bid against them?

or do you all generally dislike the idea of trying to bring the market, which it seems is a lot of us, under control?

Maybe we should elect someone every four years to help distribute the razors equally among us

It would be hard to make that work. If one of the 5000 of us really wants one, why should he yield? And what if someone bids and doesn't check to see if it's allocated already to another member. And what is the lucky member doesn't bid high enough to win, and the one who yielded would have won and is now rightfully ****ed off.

I also think that kind of organziation might actually drive prices up - alot of the best deals are when you see something others underrate because the pictures are bad or the description had a typo - if every razor goes up for dibs, that won't happen.

Also don't think it's really fair to the sellers. We may be 1/2 the market but there's nothing really wrong with that. [also just buy right after christmas - great deals then]

I do feel your pain and know where your coming from, but it would be nearly impossible to pull off such a feat. They are selling for high prices because people are willing to pay that much. Would they love to pay less? OF COURSE! BUT, there is just too much demand. People don't want to wait for another deal, they want it now! And they are willing to pay to make that happen. There's too many people with this mind set out there bidding on the same items.

I've been eyeing every one of those big butchers, because I really want one. Unfortunately, I don't have (and don't want to pay) $250-$300 for one, so I'm out. But if I did, I don't want to be restricted because it's not "my turn" to buy it. If I "want it now" and have the money to get it now, I feel like I should be able to. I don't want to be 'forced' into a year long waiting list just to save a hundred bucks give or take.

Reminds me of the prisoner's dilemna. Theoretically, if we were the only ones who actually bid on the razor, then by colluding, we would all win in the long run through lower prices. However, there are huge incentives not to play along by bidding slightly higher than the highest one among us and nabbing the razor.

Anyway, even if we were able to organize something like that, it wouldn't work because there are collectors out there not a part of the forum, or people within the forum that would refuse to play.

Wish it could be worked out, that'd be nice.

You know at one time there were some rather ingenious fellows that started a rather clever e-mail linked group that actually became a small forum of itself that was called the "Buyers Club" they at least made sure that they did not bid against each other.... Rather smart fellows, I am trying to remember all their names .....

Well Glen, I can safely say that whenever you've posted a "I'm bidding on this one pm me if you *really* want it" post, I have never bid against you.

Actually what is funny is that if somebody is willing to pay more than I was I will pull my snipe on it and Good Luck to them....

That was the way the buyers club worked too.....

I thought if your snipe is set to be less than the current bid, it won't go through anyway...
