Thanked: 234PayPal fees
This is unashamedly lifted from B&B because I thought you guys would be interested:
Makes a big difference if you sell a lot of stuff, not just on here but in general. I think paypal might price them selves out of the market if they're not careful, it only takes someone to set up the same gig, they might keep the ebay sales but it's getting a bit out of hand otherwise. IMO anyway.

I noticed that I was getting hit by fees too, and I had no idea why. Thanks for bringing this to light. Not that I really sell a lot (nothing near a business level or anything, but I guess a fair amount for a private user), but it's still a pain. I think I'll bookmark this post and link to it in my classifieds ads. There's really no reason for PayPal to take a slice, especially since they never have before.

Thanked: 402Last time they raised fees I blocked my german customers from using it.
The bank is about just as quick. Now I only use it for orders from outside of germany. Their fees are street robbery. Especially for small amounts.

Thanked: 402Onimaru you can't do that on the paypal site, unfortunately,
so I asked the guy who wrote my web-shop script to take care of this.

I agree paypal fees really going up quickly. this is what happen my recent transactions.
Buyer was from England and he paid full amount (100) and i did ship his item by priority mail. member is in SRP. After couple weeks i did get email from buyer .He said he end up paying extra 16 uk money for straight razors. i think it is custom fees. That is totally crazy.
although i did put package was a used straight razor gift?
buyer ends up spending more then 120. i guess they do this not let people buy from outside UK?

Sham, all countries do this, its free money for the government.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 234Yer, any one can get stung on customs fees. I've been lucky *touch wood* but I imagine one day I'll get a charge.
On all the stuff I send I put NCV (no commercial value) on the ticket, and just call it a shaving razor.

Thanked: 402Oh customs fees are terrible!
Not only that you have to pay them.
Most of the time you have to go there to clarify and that is very time consuming.
Write a low value on the parcel and don't add the bill.
Charge your customer for the good and the shipping seperately so that he can show up with the paypal bill for shipment only.
NCV is great as well.
