Agree with Joed, flea markets are the way forward. Love them at the moment.

That's true. Over the past year that I've been afflicted with RAD, I've bought a DD Goldedge and a Puma Gold. Both are just beautiful pieces of old world workmanship, but no offense to the fans, I was unimpressed with the shave relative to the price. Rock solid shavers and great to hone, but not all that. Maybe I'm missing it.
Around when I first joined the forum, I put up a very sincere post asking why Filarmonicas were so expensive, I didn't get it. In pictures, they looked cheap to me. But after lucking out and getting one via the Classifieds at a good price, I understood. They are particularly overpriced and hot right now, but the shave quality is just outstanding. Not $300 outstanding, just outstanding. I wish I could buy more.
Lynn, you should be getting a kickback from eBay, as you largely created the demand base for this stuff (not speaking of Fillys specifically, but the overall str8 subculture that has developed in recent years...)

Three months ago when I wanted a cheap start at straight razor shaving, I didn't know about SRP. I just knew I wanted a cheap razor or two. I went to Ebay and bid on some razors that looked physically sound, but were cheap... around $10-15. I was outbid almost immediately. So, I searched again for "straight razors", and purposefully skipped the initial listings, and went to about page 15, deep in the listings. When I bid on some "deep in the listing razors" I got about 4 razors for $15 each. (One had spider rust, and the others are doing fine.) I think on all of them I was the only bidder.
They are vintage blades and seem adequate for initial learning.
I'm getting better at sharpening, and shaving and suspect that straights will become a permanent thing with me. When I do look for some seriously nice equipment, Mr Ebay might be left out in the cold.
Thanks, Lynn!

Ebay has a habit of making me feel disgusted these days.
But on to lighter, brighter and better things:
I wanted to take a moment to also thank Lynn. As a newbie everything from the forums and the classifieds, to the wikipedia (and its databases) and Straight Razor Designs has been a totally enriching experience and has kept me going as I nick and bleed and figure out what the hell I am doing. Good stuff and good times.
So hey, thanks!

I wonder if this $500 Filarmonica was put up just for Lynn's amusement...
