Thanked: 17O_S, you make good points, I was just going by the number of transactions that each bidder has...

There are guys that collect decorated scales and they go big $ for a rare set of nice scales. Sometimes even with a trashed blade if the scales are in good shape. From what I've seen over the years this is not unusual for such a nice piece. Like O_S I wouldn't even bid on the thing let alone pay $900 but that buyer probably wouldn't pay a dime for a yellow/green Escher. Different strokes and all of that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I agree that it must be the scales. Like those lobster scales that went for a couple hundred a while back... that made no sense to me either. I must not know what I'm looking at.

It looks like the old "bidding war" I really try and stay clear of Ebay. There are guys out there with too much money, and too little brains. A dangerous combination. Razor prices have gone crazy.
We have assumed control !

Those scales...scarabs, I believe. There was a huge "Egyptian" craze in England around 1890 after that dude discovered Tut's tomb, and this is probably a result of that. Man...wish I was the seller.

Looks like a pair of snipes gotten way out of hand. Someone figure $3K for a no name blade will maybe get to $100. Then another guy thinks the same thing and bam! Philoritx is a good seller - gonna get a shock :-) Hope the buyers come through on it.
