Add on at least $50 for someone skilled in such things to repair the blade, another $20 for honing. If it's still worth it to you for $50 + $20 + $25 + $5.95, then go for it.

'Course, you'll probably want it rescaled by then, which will run you another $80 or so...

I'm thinking about rescaling this myself. I can also hone. I am getting pretty good- though I'll still send out my prize blades to the meisters just cus I'm ****-scared of trashing them. I dunno. What do you think the blade itself is worth in that condition?

Well, Khaos, the chip isn't too bad, but you'd likely loose the etching if you tried to clean the front. I'm not so sure that it would need a rescale, but the scales are tough to see. The look like horn and, to me, they look pretty good (but again, can't really see). If they are good horn, I hope you don't rescale.

So I guess the real questions are - do you value that etching? Do you have the free time to hone and/or clean her up? What would you pay for a blade like that that was already shave ready. Personally, I still don't know if I'd spend $30 for that blade as she is, but, as I said before, it's not a blade that I'm all that interested in.

It has a pretty nasty crack at the wedge, though they say its been glued... I dunno. I'm gonna let their counter offer cook, and then offer them $15 or $20 total I think. I think once the chip is fixed and the blade polished a little it'll be decent. Dunno if I have the funds though.

Ah, I'd missed the crack. Well, I don't really mind cracks since they are just aesthetic and some glue takes care of them (though my nicest blades do also have nice scales :-) ), so that doesn't have too much bearing on price IMO. Good luck with the counter offer. If you want, I can offer them $10 total to make yours look good.

Jim to me that's well worth the price. I have too damned many W&B now so I probably pass it over for that reason, and, I'll always shy away from Masonic etching because they just go for way too much lately. I think the prices Masonic W&Bs get are OK if you're a Mason, but when I see a 7/8 go for almost $200 just because of the etchings I back off. But I'd have paid what you did for it. As Sham says leave the etching if you can if you think you might sell it at some point. Nice blade!
