Looks like 70% of the price gain is from good photography?

Well as Lynne says, it's shiny! I guess that the seller has been around some selling nice blades helps with confidence of bidders. Still, it's a Duck... some folks will pay anything to get one it seems. I'm that way with certain blades - used to be Fillys until I decided I had enough of them. Now I'm looking for certain grinds and shapes and not stuck on a particular maker (for now anyway). Makes it fun because I seem to be able to get the blades I want for a song.

It's a DD, period. In great and/or mint condition they always fetch a high price. I take it you wanted it, and it was too rich for your blood. I completely understand. Ebay aggravates me to no end. People always over pay. I was once told told a razor is worth what someone is willing to pay. I saw a razor go for over 1000.00 dollars, think it was duck, Turned out the guy bid 1000.00 thinking no one would out bid him, boy, was he wrong. Let me ask this, Why do Filarmonica fetch such high prices? Is it that Spanish steel is somehow better than all the other steels on the planet? No, it's supply and demand. there's a limited supply and people are stupid. People are willing to pay 500 bucks for a vintage razor, they get it, and guess what, it shaves like every other razor they have, no better, no worse. The honing is what speaks volumes. You can get just as good a shave off a $5 no name razor, then you can off a 500 wonderedge or Filly....Now it's the Fily's everyone's crazy about, a year ago it was the ducks, and they still fetch high prices.
You just need one guy on this forum to start a feeding frenzy on ebay, It's like a bunch of sharks with blood in the water...and we got some folks on here with lots of money......There are lots a good vintage razors out there. Some may hold an edge better, some may shave better, but it's negligible IMO.
    My two cents...
