Guys- on a moral standpoint I just want to put it out there that this post was- "I'm an idiot and didn't see something obvious and am now poorer" not "I need to weasel out of this". I would love to try somehow, but if I have to I will accept responsibility. I don't appreciate posts saying its your own fault, I realise that its my fault. I am just bemoaning my situation, not trying to get out of it.

Bravo! Taking responsibility for a mistake you made is definitely the higher moral ground. I would just relist list it on Ebay. Yours was the highest bid by one dollar. I'm sure you can recover a fair amount of your loss. Good luck.

Maybe just keep the scales if they are in good condition.
If a seller lists an item with a 7 day (or whatever) return policy and no specific parameters the item can be returned crack or no crack. Morals don't enter into it IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Just some closure on this issue. Offered the seller $10 to not pay (in addition they can relist it) or to buy it anyway at their preference. The seller was a real gent/lady and said not to worry about it. Damn decent. If they are on SRP thank you kindly.
