I bet you could bid 1000.00 and still not win. Whoever's bidding on it, is a serious hitter, over 600 ebay transactions. He ain't gonna let it get away.....Your better off checking the Antique shops, Estate sales, Flea Markets IMO....

The funny thing about these auctions is that so many people say, "well, it must be worth $600 (or $800 or $1,000) because someone paid that amount. The market has spoken."
But when you think about it, being the winning bidder at one of these auctions means that, by definition, you were willing to pay MORE THAN what "the market" would offer for that item. In other words, it's not like we took a poll of all the people bidding on the Lifetime razor, averaged out the numbers, and found out that virtually everyone agrees that these are worth $450 +/- $30.
Instead, we let the price go up according to whatever the craziest, richest, lunatic DD Lifetime fanatic in the group is willing to pay. That's not the "market" or "consensus" view of the price, that's the price that just ONE PERSON is willing to pay (or more accurately, it's the price that just TWO PEOPLE are willing to pay, since it takes one other person to keep raising the amount).
So do the stupid impulses of one or two people equal a "market" price for an item? I'm not an economist, but I'm inclined to say no. As I've said in other posts, I think this type of pricing fits more into the category of a "fad" rather than a classical economic market.

...or just applying sense.
I think it has been a little more difficult to find good deals lately, although admittedly I haven't been checking often. Seems that the last few times I did a search I've found that the good blades were out of my range and the others had unusually high starting bids with no bidders yet. The abundance of "shave-ready" tags in the description has already been brought up on SRP.
I remember seeing a few Deutsch razors that were rescaled for decent prices, but last I saw the Hans with green scales it went way beyond my range.
Right now I've been closer to pulling the trigger on some of the NOS German razors from Revisor. A nice collection of gorgeous razors of various widths and prices.

Thanked: 1903Let me put it this way: I paid USD 100 for a fully restored one. Restored by Max, no less. Which is why I keep telling people that paying hundreds of USD for a razor is something that might make sense in the world of a collector, but will not under any circumstances get you a razor that performs better than one for USD 50-100. And yes, I have shaved with Filarmonicas and Dubl Ducks, and yes, I was underimpressed.

Shame on you for broadcasting this. I never thought I was the only one who knew about and lusted after those razors, but now I can probably say goodbye to that eye candy. Goodbye Goldbug I wanted to buy someday. Or, should I say in the words of my two year old, "Ame on you". Yeah, I think I'll say that one too. Don't worry, I'm not THAT upset about it.
