I'm almost tempted to buy one just to see if it will take an edge and hold it...

i was about to do the same thing.
    read carefully though
straight razor knife is not for shaving
don't know why the guy described it like that, it's quite misleading IMO

Glad that you posted that. I was also about to pull the trigger on one of them. The thing that made me hesitate was his saying that it was Rockwell 58 after heat treating. I was going by the more usual 60 to 62 I read other makers seem to go with.

I did get an answer from the seller this morning. He says that he is the maker of those razors and knives. I suppose if we really wanted a razor meant for shaving we could inquire and perhaps he is up to the task ?

Those are disgustingly thick scales, IMO, but no accounting for taste...

I agree, but maybe since they're knives, and meant for cutting rather than shaving, he wanted them to be thicker for strength. If it were real Damascus, should it not sell for more than $40?

Agreed. These are tools made for poseurs who want to feel "badass" by having a pocket knife that looks like what they perceive to be an archaic street-fighting, throat-cutting tool right out of The Godfather.

That's it. I think he's got some nice looking stuff though, and if he made shaving blades that would take a good edge I'd get one. I love the Damascus look but I'd like to know if his blades are real or if they were just etched or something afterward to have the Damascus pattern.

If he is the maker, why do his ads say that "they" (multiple razors) are made by "skilled artisans"... as in, in a shop of workers...

...and they have no makers mark. None. Nada. Zip.

I noticed that too. In the description of the razor I looked at he mentions a website and gives a phone number to call if there are questions. I was tempted to inquire but I don't need to spend the money right now on a roll of the dice.
