Thanked: 60What's the deal with these Damascus blades??
CUSTOM HAND MADE DAMASCUS STEEL STRAIGHT RAZOR
Item number:390174763470
this maker has a variety of Damascus Shaving straights along with other straight razor knives ( not sure what a straight razor knife is all about but they are not meant to be shaving razors )
if you take a look at the normal bid prices, they go for around $20-$40
he pumps out quite a few of these things.
What's the go with these? anyone tried one out? or heard about this knife maker?
they certainly look the part
but i have the feeling that they probably don't shave the part

I don't know what to think about this. I sent the seller a message asking if he is the maker, or if they are made in the USA and if not where? Could be Chinese stuff. Looking at his completed items I see he sold a couple of those razors in the $55.00 range. Mostly knives though and all but the bowie for cheap. I'll report back if and when I get an answer from the seller.

I'm almost tempted to buy one just to see if it will take an edge and hold it...

Glad that you posted that. I was also about to pull the trigger on one of them. The thing that made me hesitate was his saying that it was Rockwell 58 after heat treating. I was going by the more usual 60 to 62 I read other makers seem to go with.
I did get an answer from the seller this morning. He says that he is the maker of those razors and knives. I suppose if we really wanted a razor meant for shaving we could inquire and perhaps he is up to the task ?Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Those are disgustingly thick scales, IMO, but no accounting for taste...

That's it. I think he's got some nice looking stuff though, and if he made shaving blades that would take a good edge I'd get one. I love the Damascus look but I'd like to know if his blades are real or if they were just etched or something afterward to have the Damascus pattern.

I smell..............curried goat. These blades look like some of the recent Pakistani offerings. In that case, they are not for shaving.
