Thanked: 14He has shaving razors in addition to razor knives. He also has a separate website, though there isn't much on it. I too am tempted . . .
Is anyone going to take the plunge?

...they also look like the works of some custom makers. I think it's pretty clear that with damascus, it's not about looks at all.
Hypothetically, if I was going to buy one to try, which are the ones that are for shaving and which are the ones that say not for shaving? I didn't see any that said not for shaving the first time I looked.

Thanked: 480If you look, you will see that he lists his steel as a combo of 1095 and 15N20
I know we have metal masters on this site, lets hear from them their opinions on this combo.
With a hardness of 58-60, In my opinion that is a little low, and better heat treating could bring out a better blade.
Maybe somebody wants to get one and retreat?
I'm going to write him, and ask about billit steel. Anybody here want to try their hand at making a custom from imported Damascus? =)

Thanked: 60the top picture on page one that i included is NOT a razor
the second one is supposely made for shaving
that's what he said to me anyway
so read carefully before you pull the trigger on those
don't over bid for these gents
it may seem as though they are one of a kind, but he pumps quite a few out so if you miss out on one at around $40-$50 then just wait coz there be another with a similar design
that's what i've noticed anyway
if anyone does buy one can they post the results so that we can see whether these things take a good edge

I've sent him an email asking if any are intended for shaving and if so, which. I told him that there is interest here on the forum and that I want to buy one to test. I'll post whatever info I get and keep you updated if I do get one to test.

I´m pretty shure, he is not the maker of this razors: DAMAST MESSER RASIERMESSER KLINGE RASIERKLINGE HIRSCH bei eBay.de: Outdoor (endet 28.03.10 19:16:07 MESZ)
In my opinion this is stuff from pakistan. The description from the steel is the same, that we had for this razor, some month ago:

Such a razor was bought from a very experienced german forum member. Several honemeisters tried to get it shaveready - with no success. The edge was always brittle. Perhaps now the heat treating is better - who knows...?
Btw, the handles are much too heavy for a good balanced razor. But the shape is great – I like it : http://straightrazorpalace.com/426151-post1.html
At least - please think! In europe or US it is not possible to make a damascus razor for such a price. Even the material will be more expensive. And we dont speak over some hours of work and the profit, that the dealer want to make... If you want to earn something on such a razor you must get the material for free and the worktime must be very, very cheap.
