If you read his information, he states quite clearly that blade blanks as well as billets are available for sale as well.

Blade blanks are already shaped, hardened and tempered for YOU to put the handle on.

    Billets are just that.

Is his steel damascus? most likely. is HE hand forging them? probably not. Most likely coming from Pakistan, but so what? Many of you are all "gold dollar gold dalla, goal dala!" If a decent stainless blade from China is possible, why not a decent damascus from any place else?

When he starts bringing in the higher hardness blades, i might pick one up. I have already sent in an inquiry for a billet. =)
Maybe I should just have Dylan ask him to give him a free one to "try out"

FWIW, I've got nothing for him or against him and before this thread started I had never seen a photo of one of his razors or heard of them.

    Here is the question I sent the man through ebay;

    Dear bucknbeardamascusknives,

Hello, are you the maker of these razors ? If not are they made in the USA
? If not where are they made ? Thanks, Jimmy

    Here is his reply;

Hi,Yes I am the maker of those razors.
    Thanks,Jeff

I think we should wait for the verdict from Dylan and see how the razor turns out.

it's not actually $40 ,,, his opening price for this products start out at $9.99
so in theory if no one bids you could own his razor for less than $20
the shipping could literally cost more than the razor lol

i just hope that the maker gives Dylan a razor from his stock standard pile and not one that is specially treated for Dylan ie hardness of the steel, scale material maybe even the maker setting a bevel for Dylan etc

His BIN's are, last I checked, way above $40. Beyond that, ebay sets the price (BTW, his razors are selling between $40 and $70). And you know what, if I was doing something I loved, making enough that I was happy with the money, getting my product out there, and building a name, I would sell for that amount.

I hear what you're saying Dylan
BUT i just find it strange that someone who is doing this for his enjoyment of making straight razors and trying to make a name for himself has not joined the two most popular forums? SRP & B&B
It is here that people make a name for themselves with their custom work, reputation etc
Nobody knows anything about Jeff and what material, where it comes from, how he actually forges his steel ( if indeed he does ).
All the other custom makers on SRP & B&B have a long and established reputation and everything is transparent from material to steel, equipment they use and the problems they face.
The same makers often contribute with advice for others who want to dabble in making their own razors & other pieces of advice.
The fact that the razors that gets shipped from Jeff's shop are not honed leaves me to believe that he may not be doing this for the true love of the art.
Given the fact that Jeff does not put a reserve on any of his razors and like i said the starting bid price is $9.99 , there is a possible chance that you could win with less than a $20 bid regardless of who sets the price at the beginning.
So it seems to me that the main goal here is to move his stock at whatever price gets the highest bid even if it means as low as $20.
That doesn't seem to me to be consistant with the "doing it for the love" of it theme.
My assumptions could all be wrong here but that's just my opinion.

I'm skeptical too, but there is as much reason to believe they are good as there is to believe they are bad. That is my point.

Sorry, I´m still thinking, he is a reseller. Or he send "his" razors also to UK to an other ebay-seller:

eBay Verkäufer: kniveslove: Sport, Sammeln Seltenes

It´s some times not exactly the same stuff, but it is very equal:

Damast Messer Jagdmesser Damaszener Schmiedekunst 0385 bei eBay.de: Outdoor (endet 30.03.10 21:12:54 MESZ)

    and

EXCELLENT QUALITY CUSTOM HAND MADE DAMASCUS STEEL KNIFE bei eBay.de: Fixed Blade Knives (endet 01.04.10 00:48:45 MESZ)

Same steel, same style, same price range,.... same producer (where ever he´s come from)?

Even Dovo, as the worl greatest straight razor producer dont sell his cheapest razor for 20 $ And I think, they produce very effective.

But if the razors are good, why not a razor from India or Pakistan? If the quality is good and the price too...

I don't care if the guy makes them or buys them from somewhere else.

I will wait to hear if they can be made shaveable or not...
That is the bottom line for me.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Very interesting to see if it will make a good shave.
Will this Damascus go the same way as Gold Dollar
(the graveyard)or will it top it and become a accepted brand?

Wouldnt it be a good test to test it before you know
    which country it came from?

In science to avoid personal thoughts, half of the test-persons
    are given placebos.

If you know where the blade is coming from you will wiegh in
your personal thought,no matter if you want or not.

I mean,if you really dont like communists, its hard to accept
lets say a Gold Dollar, right?!Even if some people/vendors say its ok
your personal thoughts has already judged it!

So,to avoid all this, unless you are not blindfolded and someone else
shave you,do the test before you know the countrys name.

    Looking forward to this!

    Cheers
