As a seller I leave feedback as soon I receive a cleared payment, may be on an odd looking buyer I'd wait until they've received it, but that's it.
As a buyer I don't leave positive feedback until the seller has left me feedback. I've done my part, and unless they're willing to do theirs, I am not going to bother. There's a clearly established order in (1) paying, (2) shipping, therefore the same order applies to leaving feedback.
As far as negative and neutral feedback to the seller they get those shortly after they earn them, I like to give them a little time in case something happens and they reconsider/redeem themselves but I don't ask for it - it's up to them to figure it out.

I too had been on Ebay for many years. Gave up on it a few years back after a few bad transactions. Paypal was little help with them either. so now I refuse to use paypal for anything ever. Which really sucks on one hand as so many business like SRD and other small online shops use only paypal to process online sales rather than processing credit cards them self.

Recently I have used ebay again but I have only dealt with people who allow local pick up.

I made a sale on ebay recently and left feedback as soon as payment was made, but I may have to rethink this position on future sales after having read everyone's posts.

Ok, I too have been on ebay for at least 10 years now. I have only sold a handfull of things tho, and most of my transactions are as a buyer.

When I buy, I wait to leave feedback until the item has arrived. If I'm happy with the shipping times and the package arrived safely and in good condition, I leave my feedback then. If there was a problem, or slow shipping or packaged poorly, then I leave no feedback at all. If the seller wants my feedback on this item, they would have to contact me first. I won't contact them, but I won't leave them negative either. Leaving none is my way of saying I was unhappy with the transaction.

As a seller, if the buyer pays immediately and everything has gone as planned, I leave them feedback immediately. As far as the buyer is concerned they are finished, and have lived up to their end of the bargain. I care if they leave me feedback as well, but I will not pursue them for it. The one time I did, I ended up with 'nuetral' feedback which took a year to drop off. I'd prefer they left no feedback at all.

That about sums it up man. It's all about what makes you most comfortable.

I for one have what I call the 50% rule. Think about how smart the average human being is. Now realize that that implies that 50% of the people living currently are below average humans. That implies that 1 out of every 2 people you interact with has the potential of being a below average intelligence human being. Treat everyone as if they are in the lower 50% and you cannot go wrong.

In our house it is a real insult to say someone is a sub- 50%'er. heheheh.

Just thought I'd throw that out, as it applies greatly to ebay.

    Later!
