In my case it's not anything like that. I am living on VA disability and am not lucky enough to be able to pay what some on here are able to. I only have two razors that I paid more than $20 for at an antique shop and I had to save for 3 months to be able to buy them. Not all of us can pay hundreds for a single razor. This is basically saying that because I don't make enough money to have a highly sought after razor, I don't deserve one.

Thank you for serving!! Let this Memorial Day remind us that America was not made by politicians but by the sacrifices of our Armed Forces.

Unsurprisingly it took only two posts to see that a friend could as easily be selling as buying. The truth may not invariably set us free, but I trust it a shade more delicately nurtured ignorance.
Seriously, though, the original post does bear consideration. It would indeed be right to warn and in persistent cases ban someone for mentioning or linking in ongoing auctions, if the decision is ever taken that this should be banned. Up to now it hasn't, though.

Dllandry, I appreciate the offer more than you know but I don't think I would feel right.
Richard, thank you. I didn't do anything special. I was just a track vehicle mechanic.

This is an extremely interesting thread. Being new to this forum, I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I don't think that I would have the personal inclination to post something like that, specifically for the reasons mentioned, but it would be unfortunate if I did without thinking about the repercussions beforehand. I can really understand all the points of view here (as is usually the case with such threads), but I tend to lean more toward the side of not posting in the interest of keeping one's expenses down. As a single father, doing the proper research and finding the best deal is extremely important to me in all financially related matters. It's difficult for me to keep my son in diapers, much less cover the initial investment to start wet-shaving. I'm getting there, but it's rather slow going. Because of this, if I find any kind of one-time deal which is actually affordable for me, I don't think it's too much to ask (assuming my discretion, of course) that I be able to make that purchase without having to worry about someone with more money swooping down at the last moment and snagging it out from under me.
Considering the experience many users of this forum have regarding eBay, if what I find is something they really want, I'm sure they'll find it anyway. Not to mention the fact that if I don't like what I purchase, most likely I'll put it back up for sale, not knowing it's true value, and this person will get it for a steal anyway.
All in all, I don't think that trying to refrain from publicly posting details about an auction on which one is bidding is a bad idea. As was stated previously, eBay is a free market service with new items up for auction probably every hour. If you're looking for something in particular, you'll find it eventually, whether I post it publicly or not. But keeping it to myself is just giving myself a slight edge (pun not intended, but laugh if you must :P ) in the auction. If getting a better deal than one might get purchasing normally isn't what people are aiming for when purchasing anything on eBay or other auction sites, I don't know what is.

I don't think you have to worry about this, as this scenario just isn't going to happen. To get a steal you have to be more knowledgeable than everybody else who's looking on ebay and recognize it, and it doesn't seem you fit that profile. And you always have to worry about someone with more money outbidding you at the last few seconds - that's simply how ebay works.
When I was purchasing razors on ebay I was looking for stuff that's extremely hard to find in other ways. I've goten pretty much every razor I've wanted, but only because I could afford it. If you're trying to save over retail, ebay is your worst option. Huge risk and only marginal savings if it ends up working out. Of course, if your time isn't very valuable and you have significant budget you can spend a lot of time looking for deals on ebay, get 20-50 razors and come out ahead too.
