I have just honed one of these razors. It came from Thomas extremely well-packed (the box was larger than shoebox and wonderfully well padded), in a simple blue card box like you associate with wrist watches or similar with no makers mark on it. The blade was lightly greased, the pinning nice and firm and the scales - although used on other brands like Herder, Bartmann and Revisor - are well made.

I think that the blades must have been old stock (NOS) and had accumulated some marks or tarnish in storage, because it looks like this particular one has been lightly ground, more on the tang than the blade, and repolished, then fitted in these generic scales. It has a good finish to it. The writing on the face of the tang looks like it has been lightly machine-applied or screen-etched - under a loupe the edges look like the mesh of a fine silkscreen but that could be just the milling marks. The etching on the back looks machine-milled or lasered and is deeper.

The edge was not quite there - bevel not quite formed for most of the length and some remnants of a burr in places, but that was easy to sort out and it has taken a very respectable edge.

    Regards,
    Neil

Where exactly did you buy this razor and are there any left for sale?

Can't help there - I didn't buy the razor I was talking about, a customer of mine bought it and had it delivered to me for honing direct from Thomas. I expect a google search with 'Thomas Herriger' and 'globusman' will turn up his email address.

    Regards,
    Neil

Well I hope that it is an honest mistake but the razor that arrived in the mail today is not a 7/8. It measure 20.6mm which makes it a 13/16. To me 7/8, it needs to be a minimum of 22.2mm. As soon as I opened it, it looked small. I've sent a note to the seller so hopefully it'll get fixed up asap.

I got one last week and mine was 13/16 as well. I told him that and said he should change the listing. I didn't bother arguing over the difference as it turned out to be really really good, got one of the best edges I've felt on it.

I paid what I though was a fair premium for it being a 7/8 so from my point of view I either get a healthy discount on the original price or it'll get returned for a full refund. Sellers who misrepresent their product, even unintentionally, should not be rewarded.

Even more disappointing now is that the seller has refused to respond to two messages I've sent him to try and sort this out. I've now lodged a Paypal dispute against him and I'll sort it out through them.
