Default Ebay, Wade and Butcher equals Total Bidding War ?

I've been familiarising myself with the different styles of straight razors and the W.B's with the 'barbers notch' really appeal
to me on an aesthetic level.
The thing is, they seem to appeal to many, many people as well, all with more money than me !

I've been watching the bidding on about 4 or 5 and it just seems to erupt in a frenzy, either just before the end of an auction
or well before, as though people are saying 'back off, this is mine !!'

As a newbie I have to ask, are they really that popular ? What makes them so ? And will I ever be able to afford one ?
    Thanks for your opinions,
    Bongo.

people are silly, sniping and bidding wars make folks do crazy things. those big WB razors are just pretty and actually are fairly common place and while very good shaver they, for me are not my favorites. most of the old sheffield razors are good shavers you can often find a reynolds, marsh & shepherd, greaves, allen, wostenholm or rodgers for less and they are all great blades. just not as common as the WB.

try a Cadman bengal i think ownership of at least one is required of all our Australian members but they are not big meatchoppers like the WB

    enjoy,

Yes they are popular, why i do not know, not better shavers than many others, they are just one example of what the hype machine can do.

Now stefan You probebly do not remember Honing this little 10/8 a while back.
But there is a reason they garner what they do.
They are the best shavers on the planet)

    Bill I do remember it
but I have honed for example this one, a 9/8 Lauderjung

    shave was equally great.

A question of personal taste no doubt. For me the full hollow WBs are best shavers in the WB line up, but there are other brands that make just as great blades, those big Palmeras for example or Fridour etc etc.

Pixelfixed, your 10/8 WB looks a lot like more like a 9/8

Are we talking about "shrinkage?" They only shrink if you rinse it in cold water.
