We've had a few discussions on those and the general concensus is that they're slow cutters and not fine enough for razors. As for what that guy's smoking, he's gone way beyond weed and I wouldn't trust him with any cutting implements, especially if they're powerful enough to cut stone

Not at all. Thank-you for bringing it up. I must have missed the discussion too.

I picked up one of these and will refrain from any comments until I try it. Our experiences here should come from what we know and have tried. Like razors and beards, not everything works the same for everybody.

    Have fun.

FWIW, I have exchanged notes with the vendor and he claims that he has sold several of these to kosher butchers and to people who use them to sharpen straight razors - and that they have used them with good results.

I'm not yet convinced - especially after Randy's initial views and I'm interested in what Lynn experience is.

It is really up to each user to decide just how usable any product is for their needs. Many sellers, eBay and otherwise are seacrhing for markets and are going by what customers tell them, not what they have experienced themselves. Even though they may or may not be too coarse for us he may not know that. All he may know is that a few buyers said they wanted to try them for straight razors or sharpening butcher knives....he simply mentions this to make suggestions for buyers. It does not make him dishonest or misleading really.

Lots of people use Arkansas stones for razors too. These are very slow cutters and not at all what I would suggest to anyone for this but if you already have one and asked me for advice I would tell you many guys do use them and to fully explore it before spending money on another stone.

apparently I am in the minority. I bought one of these stones and have had nothing but success with any blade I have put to it! maybe its in the technique of the user and not the stone itself?

I am glad it's working well for you!

Still, I have my doubts about the "kosher" description

    Cheers
