The seller is fishing for suckers . I pity the fish that takes the bait . I find it hard to believe ANY pawn shop would even buy that razor . As Glen said , the scales aren't original to the razor , and the razor is old , but not THAT old . The "lucky" buyer will be getting an old blade in poor condition , and nothing more .

I been thinking more about this too. The seller never said it was the oldest, just the oldest for sale on e-bay. Which is only true by about a week. It may or may not be now and surely won't be next week. It just turns me off when I see that type of sales pitch. Reminds me of the old westerns where the guy is selling Laudanum as a cure all for everything from tooth aches to getting shot. If the Hollywood type hype ads to the story of your razor (if you bought it) then that might make it okay to spend that much for it. If it's just the razor you want you can find a way better deal than that for sure.

The listing states it is stamped Sheffield England which normally indicates 1890 or newer but I can't really see the tail to make a better determination.. I have seen dates for the company up to 1859 but I am not positive after that

Just to be clear here though Tillotson razors are a well known brand, and the ones I have messed with were good shavers, it is just the listing is very disingenuous, it would have been better IMO if the seller had just claimed "I don't know anything about this razor" and let it stand on it's own..
You're right Glen , the listing does say Sheffield , England , but I don't see the word "England" anywhere on the tang . Calling the listing "disingenuous" , is being nice about it . I would call it something else , but I'll be nice , instead .

Actually , they said "...possibly the oldest..." , which means absolutely nothing .

I was thinking of ways to be nice about this and at the same time thinking """RUN, DELETE, DON"T DO IT""" I'll shut up now.

Default Oldest straight razor on eBay?

I have nothing nice to add about the razor.

Pawn Stars is an interesting and entertaining show...from which I would NEVER trust for valuation of anything. I have seen many things on that show that I do know a fair bit about that were GROSSLY overstated in value. It makes for good entertainment. But like Glen said that, show reference means Butkus to any SRP member probably.

You are correct there Dave, I was going by what the seller said (mistake) and I can't see the stamp that well, plus there is no backside pic at all so I figured maybe it was stamped there

It could be stamped on the back of the tang , Glen , but in the case of this razor I don't think it matters much . I think we're

Are you perhaps thinking about John Mitchell?
