Rinse and continue shaving. I always orient the blade toe down and edge down and have never gotten water near the fitting. The hot water comes out of the faucet at just a trickle.

My barber places a towel over my shoulder and just wipes the razor on it with no rinsing.

I do the same on an oversized wet sponge or wet it off in the sink water. As in Glenn gssixguns(?) says, its called wet shaving for a reason. He doesn't care if it gets all wet or not, only dry it off when done.

I use an actual chamois to dry the blade after shaving. Works excellently. Started doing it when I read the recommendation in the early 1900's pdf of "How to Shave" (or words to that effect).

Rinse under tap, tap spine on sink to remove excess water, continue.

After the shave I strop on a towel laid in my palm to dry it completely.

    Werks fer me

Sounds nice and classy but how do you clean the chamois, just rinse it off?

I keep a damp folded washcloth on the edge of the sink, and wipe the blade on that. Afterwards I dry with a microfiber cloth, then let the blade sit open for a bit, outside of the bathroom, before putting it away in the cigar box.

I use toilet paper (I guess I can expect quite a lot of comments here ). I have two or three folded pieces over the edge of the counter that I use to wipe the lather off. Reason is fourfold. First, I come to believe that wet shaving goes for the face and not the blade. I carefully hydrate the face so a "dry" blade would go through whiskers more effectively (again, a belief, scientific proof welcome). Second, as a beginner, taking a look at the amount of whiskers removed helps me learn faster on the quality of my passes. Third, I recall my barber using some sort of paper also used in the bowl building lather, so why not "toilet" paper. And fourth, I rather use the paper as I use the face towel for my face.

This is how I do it.

These are all some really great ideas. Based on what I've read,I picked up a bunch of very soft dish towels. They are just the right size thickness and weight to throw over my shoulder. My new process is to simply run the razor under water to rinse when needed. But if after I rinse I am switching hands so that the other side of the blade is now going to touch my face, I wipe the razor with the towel to ensure a clean fresh edge.
