Thanked: 8need some help with this one
Hey guys,
Man was I excited yesterday. I got my first razor from classicshaving.com yesterday. I ordered a few things from them and a Timor hamburg ring razor. Heres the link to the razor:
http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...40/1554566.htm
I pulled it out and the very first thing I noticed was how uneven ground the blade was. If you hold the cutting edge on a table and look at it there is about a 1/32nd inch gap in the middle. Now this being a brand new razor, and I have never handled a new one before, is this normal? If not can it be honed even. Or am I just being to picky on a factory made blade?

I can't picture what your saying, but if your suggesting there is a warp in the edge that is that big you've got big problems.

Go ahead and be picky. I'm sure the good folks at Classic Shaving will understand and replace it for you. It's not too hard to reshape the edge with a 1k stone. If this were an antique, I'd say just go ahead and reshape it. Since it's new, it's really up to you if you want to monkey with it or not. It will be tough to get a good edge on until the little frown is taken care of.

Your welcome, btw Classicshaving does not have a return policy on razors. If you run into trouble ask them for a direct contact to the manufacturer. If you really get stuck you can send the razor to me and I'll try and repair it. If I can't you can send it out to Joe Chandler, good luck.

Thanked: 0Sounds a lot like the blade is warped. If the blade's beveled edge is touching down against a table top at the heel and toe, there should be no clearance between the table top and the edge at any point down the length of the edge.
I cannot tell you what to do but if I were in your shoes, I'd just send the razor back and have it exchanged for another. As a newbie, I'd avoid trying to mess around with the blade to fix this because once you've started tampering with the blade, they won't take it back. It's best to start fresh.
