Here's a nice Revisor that when you strip away the VAT is about $120.
6/8
Here is a good, functional bench strop that is inexpensive and will be less likely to cause your razor harm. Its about $25. I bought one when I got started a few years ago and its still in use. In fact, I don't own a hanging strop at all.
3" Burgundy English Bridle Leather Stropping Board
That gets you up and running for about $150. The remaining can be used for getting that new Revisor honed properly since it may not arrive ready to go. And it leaves you a few bucks for a nice tube of Proraso cream or an Arko shave stick.
And if you're in need of a brush, check out Frank Shaving. You really get bang for the buck with FS. I bought their biggest one that stands toe to toe with my Simpsons Persian Jar. But as you'll see, you don't have to spend that much. They have other options as well.

Can you get up and running for $200? Yes, you can. If you buy the Revisor, you will likely be able resell if either here or on eBay if you decide its not for you. The Whipped Dog option probably won't leave you that option and you'll soon want a nicer razor anyway. That decision is all up to you but know that nice stuff is available with your budget. Good luck.

Why not do this first and then you do not have to "add"? It would seem to me it would be better to spend the money once and be satisfied.
As far as brushes go I have a number of brushes but the one I come back to the most is the cheap one I bought at Walmart 6-8 years ago. Boar brushes are a little skritchy at first but after they break in and the bristles split it is a worlds worth of difference.Last edited by nun2sharp; 01-31-2014 at 02:24 PM.

I was gonna get that Boker. I liked the look of it a lot, but went with a kit that had the third Dovo.
I got my kit from here, and all included cost me like 230 american

Or based on my recent positive experience, try Straight Razor : Double Edge Razor : Shaving Products Supplies : Merkur Safety Razor : Badger Shaving Brush : Men's Grooming Products : VintageBladesllc.com honed (I believe by Lynn) and very good customer service. Veteran owned business to boot!
I got a Boker 6/8 silver steel love it. Having said that, I also have 2 Ralf Austs and a Dovo, from SRD all of which I love :-)
I'm going to stop buying soon. The latest one (luckily) came while my wife was out.
