I'd take all the tape off, and run a full stone progression keeping a very close eye on it. Once you get to the finishing stones you should be able to work the rest of the grind marks out with Crox on a cloth.

Then go back and rehone it on 4 layers of tape again, but this time pay more attention and if it's catching those high spots add more tape.

You can do some simple math to work out your maximum spine width using trigonometry.

split the razor into two mathematical right angled triangles down the spine, and work in 1/2 spine width and hypotenuse (distance from widest part of the spine to the edge). The resultant angle will be 1/2 the final bevel. so for a 20 degree bevel your looking at 10 degrees per side.

    Crox is chrome oxide.

it's a common abrasive that you can use on a strop. If you don't have any make sure you get the good stuff that's correctly graded. There are many threads on chrome oxide on this forum.

Jemmo, just IMHO, a DMT 325 is great for flattening waterstones, and maybe for taking large chips out of straight razors, honing kitchen knives, but is too coarse for setting bevels on straight razors. I use a 1K waterstone for setting bevels most of the time. I might on occasion go as low as 600 grit for problem wedges, but rarely.

Crox is the same as Chrome oxide.

Crox is just the common abbreviation (Cr Ox).

May I add. When you start to hone it. Assuming you have a 3 inch wide stone put a line down the center of your stone, only hone on one side of the stone holding your blade at an angle so the whole edge is only on 1/2 of the stone and the heel forward. Make slow steady strokes that way. It will help you with the geometry issues.

Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the edge forward and the spine in the back? Like this:

By the way, I think the razor is salvageable, at least in terms of shave-ability. But it's going to require correcting the problem (once identified) and she's going to wear some battle scars.

The use of the DMT 320 does at least explain the significant damage. That stone i have found to be particular aggressive. Its great for reprofiling knife edges and lapping other stones but no way suitable for razors. There just isnt enough metal on a razor to warrant its use IMO
