Thread: Are the heap Ebay Strops okfor a beginner

The AOS strop is the Dovo 12 in, travel strop. It is a nice strop for a travel strop, but a bit too short and narrow for daily stropping, and a bit pricy for the size.

For a new stropper a larger, quality strop will increase your odds of success in maintaining a shareable edge. That and some hands on instruction will go a long way to a good shave.

Smart move. My SRD latigo is a very good, medium draw tool. Use it daily.

Rolodave, that's actually the one I was look at in red 3", on the back did you go with premium fabric or wool felt? or just should i save my money and just go with their standard fabric on the back?

I got a good deal on a SRD Strop on eBay, but I was lucky and wasted no time in bidding and used "buy it now". I would gladly paid SRP full price for the same strop, now that I know what a difference it makes. Got a Illinois strop as a gift. And there is no comparison in the two. Save and get quality.

I would recommend a 3" strop to begin with. Anything less requires an x-stroke which is one more variable that you need to get right to have success.

Yea I figured a 3" would be better because it has more "blade coverage" and be more user friendly, so to speak

TL;DR The cheaper strop is the same as the more expensive and the cheap one has served me well.

I think i would rather strop on a piece of newspaper than one of those cheapo strop alike ebay thingys its cheaper and better. But if you dont have the cash for a nice SRD strop check these guys out Leather Hanging Strops I think they are some good choices here for the money.

All good suggestions. If your budgets really tight, try a Whipped Dog budget strop, go to a leather shop and ask them to cut you off an appropriate piece, or strop on newspaper (works surprisingly well).
