I usually recommend vintage. Through the classifieds you can get good cheap shave-ready vintage razors. If you find straight shaving is not your thing you can sell them at more or less the same amount you paid provided you handled it with care. You don't need a fancy brush unless you have money to burn. For a strop there is plenty vendors here on SRP.

Welcome! I'd go with either a 5/8 vintage round (or french point) from the classifieds or if new is your thing, a 5/8 Ralf Aust, Boker or Dovo from one of the vendors that does REAL shave ready not factory shave ready. I pm'd you.

Sure, for new gear there are several highly reputable vendors that support this site, you will see their banner ads, or you can simply go to http://straightrazorpalace.com/#sponsors
You should be able to get the razor arrive to you honed and ready to go.

For used/vintage gear you can check the Main Index - Straight Razor Place Classifieds on the site.

I remembered the other day that my late grandfather had several straight edge and safety razors so I called my mom to inquire where they might be. Hoping that she had them in some box or that my uncle may have had them. She told me she threw them out! I informed her of the few thousand dollars she trashed. He had a huge collection which now sits somewhere in a dump. I wish I had the interest in this type of shaving a decade ago. Also wish I knew more about the classics so if I ever came across a good deal. I'll keep educating myself. Thanks for the input!

You can get very close under the nose with a straight, more so than any implement I've ever tried, including DE razors.

I hope you enjoy your set just as much as I enjoy mine, great starting point. My Ralf Aust is still my go to razor and gives me my best shaves.
