Newbie first purchase questions
I am ready to purchase my first straight razor. Would a good starting razor be the Dovo Classic? Also is there shopping available through this site? Would like someone to hone whichever one I buy first from what I have read on the beginners section. Also would like suggestions on other items like brushes and strops.

I would steer clear of the Dovo if you can get an Aust or a Revisor. There is no shopping available through this site, at least there shouldn't be. All your other questions or concerns are answered here: Shopping list for beginners - Straight Razor Place Library (or, in more detail, here).

Welcome to SRP. Just be sure your razor comes with a "real shave ready edge". Purchase from a vendor who will rehone the factory edge before shipment. Just open the box and shave without stropping for your first shave. This will give you a benchmark for a "shave. ready shaving edge".

Those are both safer options for a beginner. You will have plenty of opportunities to make stupid mistakes, but those two points will reduce the likelihood of making one of them. You have to know where that blade is at all times and if you approach your face without watching, you can sink a spike point in pretty quickly.

hi do you know any good vendors in the uk for vintage shave ready razors. I just got a butler in good condition for my first razor and its not qute shave ready even though was advertised as so. Originally Posted by eddy79
