Thanked: 0Blood after the after shave
Guys - Just started using a straight now for about 2-3 months without any serious problems. Anyways when finishing the shave with an after shave or balm - I sometimes get little tiny spots of blood and/or a small scratch of blood - usually near the side of my lips and chin.
Does this happen to anyone else?

You must have a honemiester honed razor. Don't trust those guys, they're just in it for the money. You need to start honing that thing for yourself.

Very true, though my razor doesn't seem to love me much anymore
Seriously though, I don't get much blood showing once I have the after shave on. Usually if I do nick myself the Alum stick is out and on while I finish up then when I do the wet pass it is cleaned up and no blood showing.

If you see spots of blood then I assume that either you are using too much pressure because of a dulling blade or there are microchips in your edge that are catching your skin.

You may try shaving before the shower in the morning. There are a few of us (Kyle at B&B, too) who get a more comfortable shave before showering. YMMV.

Thanked: 0I sometimes develop teeny-tiny little spots in certain areas of my chin where I get recurring little bumps, especially if I've had to take aspirin during the previous day or two. A little touch with the styptic pencil gets rid of them like magic, and to be quite honest, this used to happen quite often in the "old days" when I shaved with a multi-blade cartridge razor, so it's nothing new. As every man knows, with all shaving, everybody bleeds a little now and again. It's part of the deal (or ordeal for some men).

it could just be that you are rubbing those spots where the razor slightly pulled the hair rather than cut it completely and by rubbing those spots you re-loosen the hair follicle that has stopped the bleeding to start the bleeding again. It may not be cuts at all. Just a thought....

I fairly frequently get some leaky capillaries also, right at the corners of my mouth where the skin is both a little uneven and very tender, and the whiskers go in contrary directions. I'm still trying to find the best way of shaving those difficult areas. However, plain cold water is usually enough to stop the leaks. An actual nick is something different, and I'm relieved to say I don't get those much any more!
