Knicked razor before I even used it
Well, I was stropping my new razor up for its maiden voyage. Ten passes on the linen (going good), turn strop over, clang (strop comes loose), razor bumps the side of the leather, Knick ensues. My question is, can I take this out with the strop? Maye do a few extra passes on the linen? What a bummer, I didn't even get to use it. Any suggestions here will be appreciated. Thanks for the help. I don't have any hones, and if I did, I'm not sure that I would be comfortable using it. Man I'm bummed.

No strop is going to take out a nick aka chip. It will need honing.

Thanked: 335I agree with the "oops" comments. It will need to be honed. Can you contact the person from whom you bought it for a re-hone? Some honemeisters will recondition a razor for a new straight shaver at no charge to help compensate for accidents such as yours.
How did you have the strop fastened? Was is an achoring into the wall problem or did strop hardware (rings, loops, gizmos) fail? If you are fastening to a gypsum board or plaster wall, you need to locate the studs in the wall and fasten through the wall finish INTO a stud with minimum of 3/4" of screw threads of that screw eye or hook into that structural member, more can't hurt.
Good luck
