Default Anyone ever get any DEEP cuts

Just curious if any of the more experienced shavers ever got any deep cuts when they started (or when they didn't start for that matter!)

What's your definition of deep? More than 1/8 inch or 3mm for our metric friends?

Yes. Don't try a scything motion on your chin (or any protrusion) with a dull blade. It can cut right through your face. I lopped off a small piece of flesh on my chin a few years ago. I call it my "learning divot".

When we suggest you shouldn't start with a self honed blade, we really, really mean it.

Yea, if it were symmetrical it would be killer with the ladies, unfortunately its off center by about 1/2 inch. Just my luck.

I've gotten a couple of "reminders" on my chin over the course of learning to shave.

I'd probably credit them to trying to learn honing and shaving simultaneously. My edges and technique has improved though and I havn't had a good bleeder in a couple of months now. I'm crossing my fingers now, but practice and patience has seemed to be a good solution.

I also got a good one on my thumb within minutes of discovering the Thumb Pad Test! Haha!

One thing I have learned is to let a cut heal fully before shaving again. I have a scar about two and a half inches long from cutting myself, then opening it up again when shaving before the original cut was fully healed. I won't be making that mistake again....
