Don't try to get a close shave - go for irritation and nick free, close shaves come with experience.
Stick with it, it can be difficult early on - don't get discouraged.
You should expect rain today! Me and Trewornan agree!!

Or should that be, Trewornan and I? I can never keep that straight!

    +1 Welcome to the forum!
Cannot emphasize enough that you need to get your razor honed by a honemeister. No matter what the manufacturer claims, they rarely, rarely, rarely ever have a good enough edge to actually shave after the appropriate amount of stropping.
Also, keep your strop taunt and your razor pressure light on the strop. You can easily ruin a well honed edge with a slack strop or too much pressure.

    Keep us posted!
    Welcome to the journey...
