Well, perhaps not like that, but most of my time spent here is to keep the SRP motor humming.

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys

    I did it!

Used the member razor first on one side of the face. It was decent, shaved reasonably well, rather close taking into acount that this was my first attempt at SRS and that I used no pressure against the skin, only moving my hand to move the razor down WTG. I felt a little pulling, hair getting partially torn off rather than wiped off, but it was ok. Not pleasant, but acceptable. I got more confident, so I shaved the neck, too, WTG, ie upwards. Believe it or not, the amount of hair removed was ok and I didnt get a single cut!
Moving onto the other side, I used the ebay "shave ready" from the "respected" German ebay seller. Now that thing really tore off rather than shaved off the hair. I only shaved the cheek with it. Not very close, but it did remove hair. Felt horrible, though. No cuts either!
I felt that I should use the DE to shave the moustache and chin as the straights werent sharp enough, so I did that. Got 4 nice nicks from the DE!

Congratulations. Now that the first step has been made, just keep on learning and improving your technique.

How come I don't need to watch more than the first still of that Youtube link, to know what it is? Yeah, a decent 6 hours of sleep brightened my sky. Thanks to all, for the virtual shoulder.

Cornelius, way to go, manIt sounds to me that none of them is really up to par, but it didn't hurt to try, no? For what it's worth, I usually shed more blood during one shave in my DE days, than I bled since I took up the straight razor. (mainly because I head no idea how to properly shave, whatsoever)

    Happy holidays,
    Bart.

Congrats, that is the way I started. Both the straight and the DE. Took me about 3 weeks to put the DE in the medicine cabinet and it hasn't been out since. Soon you'll be honing those to shave ready yourself and it will be smooth sailing.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Congrats! Keep doing your sideburn area with the sharper blade and expand out as you become more comfortable. From what you said, I'd be the member blade is keen. A confident stroke makes a big difference in how the razor cuts. As you get more confident, I think you'll see the razor get "sharper". Enjoy.

I've just packed these 2 and another "new" ebay SR and am sending them to Bart for him to look at and evaluate. Wil try and strop and use the Dovo.

My Wacker should be here soon; anybody know if those are truly shave ready?

Congrats! It didn't completely scare you away, which sadly sometimes happens. Keep on going, develop your technique, and you'll get to the point where you can do it without a mirror and not really thinking about it

Way to go! The first shave is the hardest, after that you realize that you're not going to accidentally decapitate yourself and the confidence grows exponentially. I didn't even dare come close to my neck my first shave, good job.

Wacker arrived, not shave ready either. Disappointed in the finish, too. It was "only" 100 euros, but still, the scales have a gap on the bottom right hand side, one of the pins sticks out and the blade is not perfect like they said it would be.
