Thanked: 335...and then there was the guy who required a face transplant after he simultaneously sneezed and hiccuped while shaving. Fortunately the technology is in place for that procedure and the replacement face, while from a different ethnic group, was sized about right and fit pretty well.

I've gotten more and worse nicks from my "safety" razors (DEs)....

I've had a few minor cuts, probably the worst was to my thumb which I managed to get while stropping (on the hand holding the razor, not the one holding the strop). My most recent cut, however, was with a double edge while shaving my ears. It took 3 hours for it to quit bleeding.

Thanks for all the stores
I'm not sure if reading the posts would set my wife at ease, but it's sure given me plenty of laughs. It's amazing what you can do to yourself if you aren't paying attention. Just a couple of weeks ago I managed to give my finger a good slice with one of our razor-sharp carbon steel kitchen knives. How did I do this, you ask? I was chopping green peppers when I turned my head to say something to my wife... and wham, a nice slice that bled a lot but didn't end up being that bad in the end. It was probably my brilliant performance with the knife that led to her concern with the straight razor.
Incidentally, like many on this forum, the worse cut I ever had while shaving is also the result of a Mach 3. I was running late for an appointment in college and for some reason I will never understand I tried to remove some shaving cream that had gotten on my ear with the razor blade. I think my ear bled for close to 15 minutes. I've never even come close to cutting myself that bad with a DE.

Thanked: 121Beware the spike point!
Other than a couple of careless nicks, the only real "slice" I've inflicted on myself was my first time with a spike point, about an inch long in the hollow of my right cheek.
It looks for all the world like a duelling scar and I am very proud of it!

I've sliced up my checkbook a few times....but she probably already understands that risk.
Actually, so far I haven't suffered any serious injuries. Just the usual nicks, which for me seem to gravitate towards the little bump in front of my left ear.

I think that most of the injuries are sustained while doing resto's or cleaning the blade. The actual shave is probably the safest part. That's when you're giving the blade the respect it requires. Watch where the hand doing the stretching is & get the hell out of the way if you drop it & you'll end up with no worse than a few obligatory nicks!
