Thanked: 317For half my 20's, I used to shave my head with a mach 3 every morning, usually in the shower. One time I managed to slice across the top of my left ear making good solid contact with all 3 blades.
I didn't have any stiptic at the time, and it took me almost 10 minutes to stop the bleeding.
What was even worse was that at work that evening, I must have done something to bump that ear, and ended up with my whole left ear covered in dried blood because I didn't notice I had done it until I stepped out of my office and one of my employees shouted, "Oh my god! What happened?"

I have only been using a straight for 2 weeks. The only cut I had was on my very first stroke. I caught my ear. Look out for the tip when doing sideburns. Nothing serious.
Also, tell your wife that if she is going to approach you when you are shaving have her announce herself before she gets close. This way you won't get startled and cut yourself.

Thanked: 172injury
On myself first touch to the face below right sideburn. Still have slight scar. On others Barber school state board exam, cut person below rt. sideburn with backhand stroke, also had bad habit of nicking the top of left ear while cleaning up around ears after haircut. The worst was shaving around patron's ear and dropped razor. DO NOT TRY TO CATCH, BUT I DID AND DIDN'T QUITE CATCH AND IT SLID THRU MY HAND! i AM NO LONGER CUTTING HAIR

Hmmm.. the worst I got was a nick on my chin when I was shaving in a hurry with a shavette with a feather DE blade in it..I was on time and it stopped bleeding on time but later that evening it started bleeding again.. must have talked too much I guess. it healed in just a couple of days.
And of course I cut of a piece of my indexfinger when honing a razor.. nothing a bandaid couldnt fix..
so dont shave in a hurry and dont whipe of your razor with your indexfinger in the direction of the spine.. and watch your ears.. you dont want to end up like van Gogh..

I have never really cut myself while shaving. A nick here and there, but nothing that required any first aid treatment. But one time (I don't remember now exactly what I was trying to accomplish) I was holding a razor by the scales horizontally in front of me. The razor was standing straight up and was staying in place because it was pretty tightly pinned. As I turned to reach for something I must have squeezed the scales together because that blade freed up and fell like a guillotine. It sank itself into my thumb and demonstrated just how sharp it was. I considered that a learning moment and haven't repeated that act of stupidity again.

Thanked: 235The worst injury I have sustained is psycological. I have contracted RAD. It seems there is no cure, I just have to learn to live with the symptoms.

Thanked: 235Apparently in the late 1800 there were a lot of wives who committed suicide by cutting their own throats by using their husbands cut throat razor.
