Thread: Most serious straight-related injury?

apparently this guy was an alcoholic.
I guess he had the shakes really bad one day and cut his own throat while shaving and bled to death before help could arrive.

hence the warning don't shave while impared..

I scratched my cheek with a Red Imp spike point once or twice. That's about it.

I have never had anything that some alum could not take care of and i have only been shaving since Christmas. However, i have been told that i take way to long to shave with my straight, but it is not something i like to do in a hurry. It relaxes me, so I take my time and make my WTG pass followed by my XTG pass, and an ATG pass in a few places that are harder for me to shave. I would tell her not to worry, and if you follow the tips for newbies about testing the waters on the sideburn area and then covering the other parts of the face after you get a good feel for your razor, you should be fine.

Nothing major on the face - just nicks and cuts at first, now rarely. I did once slice my finger handling the razor, though.

Two things I do on a daily basis that I will not do after even one alcoholic beverage - shave with a straight razor and ride a motorcycle.

Here's a tip that will help you keep your tip.

Don't shave fully naked. (You may drop the razor while shaving.)

Heyooo! Priceless advice. Some tips can be replaced. Others can't.

One serious enough as a lasting reminder. I have a 1" hairline scar on my face where my razor dug in (probably from not stretching the skin properly). The blade came to a sudden stop and embedded itself into flesh. Didn't bleed any more than the alum block could cope with. I think it will fade in time!

My worst injury was against the grain on my chin. I was still learning and not ready for such a maneuvre yet. The blade slipped under a few layers of skin and opened up a small oblong slice. That took about a week to heal, and was pretty ugly, but that's the only major cut (beyond papercut) so far. One must always respect the blade!!!
