My 1st. Anniversary with straight shaving!
Hello everyone. I'm proud, to say today is the day I've been shaving with a straight razor for one year. I shave with a Dovo Bergischer Lowe with black horn scales. I love this razor, and hobbie. This has been a wonderful experience! I went from hating to shave, to can't wait to shave. I want to thank every one on this forum who has helped my straight shaving experience in being this good, and rewarding. STRAIGHT RAZOR13.

Awesome milestone!
So...let's hear the gory details:
1) est. number of shaves over a year?
2) how many soaps or creams did you use up?
3) How many times did you have to refresh the blade on a hone?
4) did you get RAD?
5) how many bottles of aftershave did you use up?
6) nick/cut count over a year?

Thank you chilly 48. Stick with it, don't get frustrated. You will get better, I hope, with practice, shaving, stropping, preshave. It took me 15 to 16 shaves to feel confident. Yes I started with a shave ready razor. I bought a brand new Dovo Bergischer Lowe from Classic Shaving.com. Its a 5/8 full hollow ground spanish point, with black buffalo horn scales. When I asked the sales lady over the phone about the pre-sharpening honing procedure, like who is going to do it. She said honemeister Lynn Abrams, moderator of this wonderful forum, has done the honing. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of razor are you shaving with, is it shave ready, and what kind of strop are you using? What is your pre-shave procedure? What are you doing, as far as; soaps, cremes, pre-shave oil, brush, hot towling? How many times are you stropping your razor, on linen, leather? Don't get frustrated, it will not help you. If I can't answer your questions, or help you, never fear. Someone here can. You came to the right place. Good luck. STRAIGHT RAZOR 13.

Thanked: 2straightrazor13 thanks... my dumba$$ bought a razor from The Art of Shaving so it wasn't shave ready.Strop from there too. I bought all the 4/8k norton waterstone and a 12k waterstone too. But I know my mistakes. Learn shaving first... with a shave ready razor, then learn how to hone. So i'm about to purchase a beginner set from RupRazor.com that comes shave ready with a broken in strop. I emailed Ken about this and he says that the gold dollar razors are great for beginners and when learning how to hone they give good feedback. plus the "philly strop" he sells has chrome past on the outside for the occasional touch up. If all goes well he says I won't have to hone for months...if i'm stropping properly lol. thanks for the info.
oh yea, my prep is perfect, shower, facial wash, preshave oil... wiskers very soft. I use Trumper rose cream also.
