I'd send it off to a member on here who can hone, that way you know whether your problems are coming from a poor edge, or poor technique.

Pre sharpened only means the razor is sharp enough to cut yourself. If you want to shave with it you will have to have it honed. Your best bet is to send it to a hone miester.

FWIW I have bought a half dozen razors from Classic and they were plenty shaving sharp. Stuff happens though and if it is the razor I am sure Classic will stand behind it. If it is technique, lack of prep, or inadequate stretching the sharpest razor will give a poor shave. Read the second paragraph of Torrey's instructions. Nothing new under the sun or so Solomon said.

It is rather simple, was the Dovo seal still on the razor coffin???
if it was then the razor is NOT shave ready...

If it was "honed" there should be a little tag on the coffin saying something like "This razor has been professionally honed please do not strop before your first shave"

Factory sharpened and "honed to shave ready" are two totally different levels of sharpness...

If it was honed then all the hints about prep and angle above are what you should follow, if it wasn't you need to get it honed ...

It was my first shave. I did get a good lather and had just gotten out of shower. I only made one pass and stopped. My face was red and sore. I am sure I am at fault, but wanted to see others opinions. I did no prep to blade assuming the first time it was not needed. I will take advice and wait couple of days.

I was shaving this morning and thinking about this thread. Rordan you might benefit from reading this thread here and this SRP Wiki article here. Just a thought.

    +1

Both articles are right on, after a shower I use the first lather to scrub my face one last time, hot towel to scrub & rinse. I've got a sensitive face & the multi-pass (three times & then touch-up) sure was the ticket for me. Ended irritation for me.
