Thread: going to afgahn

I am in the army and should be deploying soon. I have been shaving with a shavette to learn some technique I've gotten pretty good, and am looking foward to my first straight razor. Should I even try I won't have much supplies out there if I do what kind of things should I buy? Thank you please help

Thank you for serving! I wouldn't worry too much about shaving in that environment as I suspect you will have greater concerns to think about. But if you want to treat yourself to a relaxing and calming event after being in the field for several days, your Shavette, extra blades, and Col. Conk Soap, and a badger brush will take care of you if you have access to water, especially hot water.

Good one everyone in my group keeps telling me that I can shave and fight with it . Yes it is going to be my first time but I'm going with a lot of great soldiers. I do love the feeling of a good shave wanted to try the straight razor but I guess the shavette will have to do.

I have a friend in the Army National Guard who was deployed to Afghanistan to train the Afghan National Army. Depending on the base, you may have access to supplies. They were a 2-day convoy trip each way from the nearest PX, which was out of any sort of shaving stuff regularly.

We ended up outfitting several guys in his unit with DE razors & blades, brushes & soaps. Ziploc has some nice containers with screw-on lids that work well for soaps. A shavette might be a great back-up to take with you, since DE blades are small & weigh virtually nothing.

+1 on the shavette. You'll probably want something you don't have to worry or keep track of since you'll have your eyes on other things. No worry about the strop, etc.
