Welcome to SRP! Taking it slow is the right thing to do. I've been at it 3 months now. I followed that advice and it has worked out very well for me. I think you will enjoy the shave experience and reference SRP for the wealth of information that's available.

Welcome to SRP!! You have found the right place to seek knowledge and ask questions. As to saving money in the long run...
Tell me that after you have purchased your 100th razor, 500th tub of cream and/or soap, and uncounted numbers of aftershaves, strops, brushes, lather bowls/scuttles. We all start by thinking we would be saving money...
