Hey guys,
I thought I would introduce myself. I have been browsing this site for a few months, but I just didn't ever get around to creating a profile. I have been collecting, using, and sharpening my knives for a few years now. Not long ago I mentioned to my wonderful fiancé that I wanted to start shaving with a straight razor. Partly as a hobby and also to save some money in the long run and get a better shave.
Well my birthday was just the other day and my fiancé got me a vintage Taylor Eyewitness 11/16th straight razor, and all of the things need to go with it. She purchased it from the invisibleedge.co.uk and I couldn't be happier. I have been taking it slow and practicing only shaving part of my face with the new razor so I can get used to doing it correctly. So far so good, and I'm loving how close a shave I can get. When I feel comfortable enough doing the across the grain shaving I'm sure it will be even better.
Thanks for sharing all this information as it has helped me ease into it and do things the right way.
cheers!

Welcome to SRP! Taking it slow is the right thing to do. I've been at it 3 months now. I followed that advice and it has worked out very well for me. I think you will enjoy the shave experience and reference SRP for the wealth of information that's available.

Welcome to SRP!! You have found the right place to seek knowledge and ask questions. As to saving money in the long run... Tell me that after you have purchased your 100th razor, 500th tub of cream and/or soap, and uncounted numbers of aftershaves, strops, brushes, lather bowls/scuttles. We all start by thinking we would be saving money...
