Don't tell anyone but sometimes I'll use my Sensor as well as a DE razor.

No offense (because I know this is all in good fun), but I'm not sure why you would post here to ask if it's alright to switch razors every now and then? Who are we to tell you anything is against the rules? If it feels right then just do it, man!

I brought your case up before the moderators and we have, after careful consideration and long debate, decided it is okay for you to alternate.

Kidding aside, I used to feel like I had to shave with a straight or I would be somehow betraying the shaving Gods. I have some really nice DEs from back when I collected them and it is nice to break one out every now and again and revisit that option.

OTOH, I found I really do prefer shaving with a straight so that is what I mostly do but it is purely a matter of personal preference. I would bet after you are at it awhile you'll prefer the straight too. Just a better overall shave IME.

If you live in the blue state of Massachusetts, i think they may have a law on the books against swapping from DE to straights, if iam not mistaken they have DE police also, its only illegal if you get caught!! JK

Yeah, I confess too. If I have to catch an early morning flight and I am shaving at 3:30 am, I sometimes use a straight to do one careful pass all over, then clean up with my wife's Mach 3 while showering. Too dangerous otherwise, when I am that sleepy and rushed!

I probably use an Injector or DE once a week or so, more often in the summer.

    Whatever works for you

My reason for asking was if there was some, for lack of a better term, scientific reason why alternating would have a negative impact on my skin. Thanks for the feed back. I guess I am going to find a DE to play with.

One of the reasons I prefer straight razor shaving is that I think it is gentler on my skin. I shaved with DEs for a long time and have tried many blades. Oddly enough I am far more likely to get a nick or weepers from a DE than from a straight. With either method the learning curve has to be gone through before irritation free shaves are consistent but in that regard I'm far more comfortable with the straight razor. YMMV.

It goes without saying that the straight razor must be truly shave ready along with the accomplished technique. If you get into DE shaving a blade sampler pack is the way to go. A blade that is good for one guy won't necessarily be good for another so going through a good assortment will lead to the ones that are 'right' for you.
