And don't forget the styptic pencil or is that what the block of alum is for?

I rinse the blade under running water during the shave and then wipe it off with a towel before the next pass.

When I'm done shaving, I wipe it off on the towel again and let it fully dry while dressing, before I put it up.

    Have fun,

I do the same thing as Lynn (because I learned to shave with a straight mostly from his DVD!). However, after drying I do put two drops of camelia oil on my blade.

I hang a paper towel off the shelf I have and wipe the razor clean as I shave. Rinsing it breaks my rhythm. Plus if I want to suddenly strop, water is not in the way of that. No cuts on towels, or whiskers and shave grime to launder. I rinse clean only when I'm done with the razor. If pivot area gets wet, blowdryer.

Default Do You Wipe Your Blade, Or Rinse?

Today I watched a clip on YouTube of a straight razor demo. The man in the vid had a sponge in the sink witch was soaked with water. He would wipe his

blade clean on the sponge when it filled up with lather. I thought to myself, what a great idea! Wipe your blade clean on the sponge, mess stays on the sponge and

in the sink, rinse the sponge clean after your shave.. What method do you use?

That's pretty much how I do it too... But I've the sponge on top of the sink, that way I don't risk to hit the sink sides...

that's a good point.. I went to OSH and bought a grouting sponge witch is super soft when wet and 2" thick for just that reason.
