I think I agree with this. Texas is still a free state anyway isn't it? I thought their motto was 'Shave free or die'

You may be thinking of New Hampshire's motto: "Live, freeze and die".

I can unequivocally assure you with 100% certainty that it is perfectly legal to buy, own, make, sell, use, display, and shave with a straight razor in Texas. You have been misinformed.

There is statewide legislation pending requiring establishments who shave others for a fee (i.e. barbershops) to use disposable straights when shaving clients that is already enacted in several counties - but this does in no way affect an individual who wishes to shave himself with a straight razor. Many barbershops that offer straight shaves will be happy to shave you with one of your own razors if you'd prefer.

I find for me it has historically been better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission

    Default Permission or Information???

I was trying to be polite and allow people to find information on their own. I never suggested anyone ask a bueaucrat for permission. I already knew the answer to the question, but why would someone who doesn't know me believe what I would say in a post? They are better off finding a definite answer on their own with just a little bit of help.

I hope Youngun found the answer he was looking for and enjoys years of straight razor shaving. Anyone who can quote Roger Miller is alright with me.

Those regulators are going to have to pry my straight razor from my cold dead hands.

I would like to know a little more about this before I decide to order one online. I read that is legal to own a straight with a disposable blade, and even then, only barbers can have them, and I don't want one "like that", even if I could.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
P.S. Is this law even enforced?
Dude! I am in Texas and I own a pile of razors, guns and knives! Enough ammo to start a small war. Who doesn't?

I don't know about straight razors, but it should be illegal to respond to a thread without reading it...

It is NOT illegal in PA for a barber to use a straight, FYI. Not sure where you guys are getting your information but straight razors are not an illegal weapon so therefore they are not illegal to buy. Using one in a barber shop is a completely different scenario.
