Thanked: 1Why's it Illegal?
I live in good ol' Texas. The problem I have is buying, or owning a straight razor in Texas is illegal. If I were to order one online, would it not be shipped? I would like to know a little more about this before I decide to order one online. I read that is legal to own a straight with a disposable blade, and even then, only barbers can have them, and I don't want one "like that", even if I could.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
P.S. Is this law even enforced?

I had no idea this was illegal in Texas, if this is the case the place is full of lawbreakers. Have fun!
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 3795I highly doubt that it is illegal to own a straight razor in Texas. What is your basis for this claim?
If it were illegal to own a 3" blade, I'm curious how cooks would manage to make do with even shorter blades.

More than likely its legal to have and use, but barbers are not allowed to use them in there shops due to hygiene.

It may be the same as in Alberta. Here it is illegal for barbers to use a straight. This was put forth by Capital Health (the regional health authority) due to unsanitary reasons. The idea is that a disposable blade razor can have a different blade for each person. Where as a normal straight carries a higher risk of cross contamination and spread of infections, especially if not cleaned properly. However I doubt that it is highly enforced. I have heard rumors of barbers still having straights around Edmonton (though I have never been to one here).
That being said it is not illegal to possess one. It's a blade like any knife. Even if it were you can still order it online, and unless the cops come into your house to check it's not like anyone will know. But like I said, I highly doubt that it is illegal for personal posession.

Thanked: 1Great point. I do not know for sure, but I read the article in wikipedia under straight razor.
The thing about cops busting in to your house and checking, I thaught the EXACT same thing.
