Thanked: 5New razor suggestions
Hey all! So I'm really enjoying learning how to straight razor shave with my Westor Bros (from whipped dog), but it seems may here say that a newbie should have two razors (for comparisons). I'd like my next razor to be brand new, good quality, reliable and affordable (not quite ready for the big dollar drop yet). Suggestions? I was looking at the Dovo Best Quality Black 5/8" from SRD ($68.99), as it would be sent shave ready, but am very open to other suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Thanked: 993I think that Dovo is a great way to go. Some guys will say Boker, and that's ok too.
Personally, I'm not a large Boker fan so I'd head the Dovo way for sure.
You also get the second honing with your purchase from SRD, which is great when you're just starting out.
Hope this helps,

I bought the Dovo Best Quality for my first razor and am very happy with it. I'm only four shaves in and just ordered my second Dovo razor due to the fact that I accidentally bumped my best quality against the faucet and jacked the edge. So a second one is good not only for comparison but also in case you damage your first one!
I've also heard great things about the Revisors. I will be getting one for sure in the future. So either way you can't go wrong.

The Best Quality Black is a great razor. I actually used mine last night and had a fantastic shave! For the money, you can't go wrong, especially getting it from SRD.

My advice is, don't over think this too much.
The reputed makers out there makes razors that will give you great shaves for a long time.
Wether you go for a Dovo, a TI or a Revisor, or any other of a good reputation, you'll get a fine product.
Find one in your price range and with the size and grind you think will suit you, then hit that big shiny button which read "buy Now"Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Either the Dovo or the Revisor would a great way to go. Both are Solingen blades, so I think it really comes down to how much you want to spend.

I havn't decided yet, I have a 7/8 Filarmonica coming and if that size of blade suits me then I will probably go for the one of the bigger blade Revisors, 6/8 or even the 8/8.
As for the Dovos, I am in 2 minds with the one I shave with at the moment.
I have a 5/8 best quality and it doesn't shave as well as my vintage blades.
But its all personal
