I just could not wait
Well it was killing me not trying out my two straight razors. So I had to do it tonight. I chose the Schulze as I figured it was closer to shave ready. I spent maybe 20 minutes with it on my Zanol Barbers hone then have it 30 or so laps on the strop. Off to the bathroom I went razor in hand.
I opted to choose a cold water shave after some stuff I read today. Using Williams soap.
I managed to get through both cheeks down to below jaw line, my neck almost to jaw line WTG. I then went on a bender and went Xtg for my cheeks and part of my chin.
All of that followed with ATG as a final touch up with my Mach 15 for some odd areas.
Net result was a great first experience! I only had 1 or 2 little red blossoms that were not even what I would classify as a cut or nick. I have a touch of razor burn on 1 cheek but that was not from this shave but from testing my razor while honing. It is not much of a sotd but it marks my first shave with a straight it

Thanked: 1195Congrats on your first shave, glad to hear everything went alright.
But if you don't mind me asking, why did it take you 20 minutes to use a barber hone? Barber hones are meant to be used sparingly, say only 5-6 laps for a touch up before a shave....

I have never honed a pocket knife let alone a razor that was going near my face. So I had videos playing, books from the 20's open and I was really trying to figure out on the fly.

Thanked: 993Sounds good, and sounds fairly successful. Lets hope that Iced Lime takes care of the razor burn! Then off you go for round number two.

You mean I have to do it again??!!LOL
And the razor burn is my own stupid fault. You see I was not going to shave till you had done both my razors. But it was killing me. So I was trying to see how sharp I could get them. So I had honed a bit and stropped. I wet my arm and it shaved the hair on my arm, I was shocked. Which got me curious....hehehe. So I did a couple dry passes on my cheek. It was removing stubble. So I honed a bit more and stropped and went and shaved.
The spot where I did the 3-4 dry passes is where I have a little razor burn. Lesson learned ;-)

Very nice.
Sounds like you are off to a great start!
Very soon you'll be shaving like a pro.
It most definitely will only get better from here.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

What a brave soul. Never honed anything and then used the blade on your first hone try? Dang. Congrats man. I wish you many more successful shaves!
I'm a sucker for a stamped tail. Giggity.

good job - so will you only send the other out to be honed to compare to this one?

But the Videos make it look so easy :-d. Big on Braun light on Brains comes to mind in retrospect, mostly for the dry shave test i did on my face.
But no cuts, knicks or scratches to show for my efforts so I am pretty pleased.
I really can not thank all the experienced people around here enough. They provide so much help and valuable information not to mention the hours preparing videos and wiki info. Really is the best online community I have come accross for any hobby/sport/past time
