    Three razors....hmmmm

    Father's day
    Advance birthday present
    Advance Christmas present

    done. problem solved.

Seriously, those blades are going to shave nicely, so if it's a matter of aesthetics... get the one you really want. You're going to look at it every day.

They are still rebrands since AOS does not manufacture razors. The maker just puts their name on it and maybe some unique decoration. If you are going to be using the razor daily consider Gold Wash decoration is very delicate stuff and will not stand up and if you need to polish some rust spots the stuff will come off. Also consider AOS razors are overpriced.

Of course in the end buy the one you will be happiest with. They are all high quality pieces.

First of all, Welcome!! Glad you joined the community.

I couldn't agree more with spendur. They are all great pieces. However, If I was faced with only being able to have one razor, and had my choice of the 3 only, I would go with the TI. They are just a lot more desirable to own. I can't really justify spending that much money on a razor, but if I could, it woudl be the TI.

As you can see, it's number one on my list of 'wants', but so is a Dovo.

Also, Every older razor I have that has the gold wash, it is fading and I haven't the skill or knowledge to fix it.

just my 2 cents, thanks for letting me join in.

    kbpipes,

Both the C135 TIs (like the AOS) and the Dovo Special (aka 'Tortoise') are excellent shavers

I have both, and would be hard pressed to choose one over the other !!

    If in doubt, get both

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Thanks guys for all the comments. Yeah the TI from AOS is a little out of my price range. My wife really wanted to do something special for me for fathers day. She said I have sacrificed so much this year that she wanted to do something for me. I decided to keep the TI even though I am not a huge fan of the stainless steel handle (scales???) I look forward to using it.

From what I was told AOS hones their razors before they sell them. I need to call and find out if they actually do or if they are factory honed. I still need a strop. I am thinking of making one from materials I found at Hobby Lobby. Or trying to order one for an inexpensive price since I my wife went lock stock and barrel on the razor.

Thanks again for all the comments.

Do not forget that down the road you can rescale or have it rescaled with something you like.

I would suggest talking to Larry over at www.whippeddog.com for an inexpensive strop.

Instead of a handy man special strop. Why not return that razor to AOS, and buy a new shave ready razor and good stop for the same price(maybe a bit less) online?

Thanks guys. I actually was looking at Larry's site. That I think it the rout I might go. The reason for my interest in making a strop is that I like to do wood working. Seeing others photos makes me really want to give it a try. I have years of experience doing knife work. I hope some of it will transfer into working on razors. Still I think for my first strop it is probably better to purchase something.

Slartibartfast: You know I wouldn't have a problem with doing that. Honestly I put a good amount of thought into that last night. I just don't want to return the razor my wife purchased for me.

The bad news, Unless that razor from AOS was specifically sent out by you, it is NOT shave ready,, Yes we all know they say that , in fact many of the Professional Honemiesters from this forum hone razors for the AOS closest to them, but the razor has to be sent out and there is a cost...
TI razors from the factory are sometimes pretty sharp even, but the difference between "Factory sharpened" and "Shave Ready" from a pro are night and day...

Another hint, get a strop that has a Linen/Cotton/Webbing Component you will be much happier down the road
