I can only give an opinion, I've never tried duct tape, but I'd say no. It's probably too thick and I have no idea how it would hold up. I'm using Tartan 1710 electrical with no problems, and have used 3M 1700 with good results. Just get a roll in that range and you shoul be fine.

I get a little tape residue, and find the tape itself manages to get most of it off...remove the strip and dab with it. After I always wipe the blade with alcohol. Seems to do the trick.

Always carry a roll of 33+ at work. Works great as a waterproof bandaid as well in a pinch...
