Default Another new guy from Texas

Hello everyone. My name is Rafael. I have been Wet shaving with a DE for a while now and I believe I am going to make the transition to straights. So to the point, I am looking for advice on a good starter razor. After reading and researching I am leaning towards a round point. I just like the looks. I am still reading and learning so I can get the proper set up, strop and honing equipment. I am also leaning towards a stainless steel blade since I have read that they are easier to keep and keep the edge longer. This will give me time to develop my stroping and honing skills with another used blade. Any help will be greatly appreciated. You guys have a very friendly atmosphere much like B&B where I am a regular. Thanks for the wealth of information.

    Raf

    Welcome to the forum.

I would advise that you contact forum member Tony Miller.
From this guy you can get a complete starter kit.
    www.thewellshavedgentleman.com

Now the razors that he sells are carbon steel and
not stainless but I do believe that you will be satisfied.

For vintage razors check out these sites.

    http://www.shop.writerferret.com/ This is Joe Chandlers
site and he has vintage razors for sale.

Also www.billysblades.com This is Bill Ellis aka urleebird.
    he alsoasells vintage razors.

Or one more is Mr. Lynn Abrams email him at [email protected]

I hopes this helps you a little.

Thank you for the responses. I have been visiting those sites today. I may have to thin my herd of DE's to finance my straights!!

Thanks Bud. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later so I figure sooner. Looking forward to picking your brain every now and then since I have much to learn.

    Yep welcome to the site.

If you want stainless and you buy from the usual suspects here stainless razors will be in shorter supply since they sell vintage and stainless came out towards the end of most of the production runs. John Crowley usually has several on his site and of course Dovo has many but they are new stuff and pricier.
