Thanked: 4And so it begins!
just got the first piece of my orders from this past week. my strop. it is a cheapo one which was made in pakistan, but i figured it would be ok to learn on for my first go around. the hardware and the handle seems pretty cheap, but the leather seems fine. not sure about the nylon part because i dont know what that is supposed to feel like. i would be to worried about ruining a super nice on or even a middle of the road one. gave it a few strokes with a kitchen knife... (hope that is ok to do?) didnt nic or cut it and thought i did pretty good with the flip, but who knows until i get the razor in my hand.. heres a picture. and hopefully my brush/ mug kit along with my soap and razor will come shortly.

Thanked: 0While I can't give you any info on the strop, but want to wish you good luck. I have a razor in the mail and plan on ordering a strop my next pay day. I can't wait to get started.

Thanked: 4Awesome! What kind of razor are you getting? I picked up one from the classified. A Burrell cutlery co. Top flight.. Looks like a pretty cool razor, and from what I read has a nice shave.

Grats to both of you!
To mdixon: I'm sure you already know this, but wait till you have the strop before using your new razor.
As always, post pics as the stuff arrives! I like seeing what all the other new members are starting with.

Thanked: 4Just received my "new" honed razor! pretty excited... I love the Top Flight logo... my shave brush/ set is coming later today, so I will have a nice shave tonight since i have been growing out the old beard since a week and a half ago haha here is a picture. I have plans on getting it rescaled so it can be my go to shaver for now until I get back into the swing of things..

Thanked: 0Most days I'm lucky I can find the power button on the computer, but I'll see what I can do. And I will wait from my strop to arrive, I'm thinking of pestering an old school barber I know to get some help and pointers.
Not to hijack mvaac's thread, now back to you regularly scheduled programing.

Thanked: 4Alright so last night I took a hot shower, lathered up, and went after it.... I basically only shaved the sides of my face because I was kind of dumb and didn't trim down my beard first so it wasn't going so well... But over all I had fun and I didn't do to bad... Cut my check just a bit when I got to cocky haha... Shaving with the real straight razor is a little different then the shavettes, but I think I will pick it up soon. By the way the Van Der Hagen shave set is rather nice for the price? I am waiting on some Bald Frog Soap to try out too! Now it's time to go through the tips on shaving and ore shaving again
